Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Wellbeing & Mental Health Lead to provide individual and group support to identified pupils who need this to overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will provide a proactive, preventative, and responsive complementary support service to that provided by teaching and pastoral staff. The role focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of students to remove barriers to engagement, well-being, and academic success. A key element is supporting the school's most vulnerable students, including those with attendance difficulties, in successful re-engagement with education.

Working hours

Monday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30am-4:00pm

Friday 8:30am-3:30pm

Term time only plus 5 days

Job requirements 

  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics
  • Excellent knowledge of common adolescent mental health and wellbeing challenges, such as anxiety, low mood, self-esteem issues, and stress
  • A good understanding of the principles of effective intervention delivery, monitoring, and evaluation techniques in a school setting
  • Knowledge of various evidence-informed wellbeing interventions (e.g., emotional literacy, resilience building, basic CBT-informed techniques).
  • Highly developed active listening, empathy and mentoring skills to rapidly develop positive and trusting one-to-one relationships with vulnerable pupils.
  • Experience working as a key worker for students with SEND is desirable. Experience acting as a key worker for students with SEND is desirable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with pupils, staff, and external professionals, ensuring clear and sensitive communication
  • Significant experience working with adolescents (ages 11-16) in an educational youth work, or support setting
