Senior Design &Technology Technician (Level 3) – Part-time, 2/3 days a week

Hours of work: 2 or 3 days a week, preferably Wednesday/Thursday and Friday 8am – 3.30pm 

Grade 5, Points 11 – 14 £29,542 - £32,046

2days, 14hrs per week x 38 weeks, plus 18 hours training days, 550hrs pa, 32.89% FTE

Actual Salary £9,716 - £10,539

3 days, 21hrs per week x 38 weeks, plus 18 hours training days, 816hrs pa, 48.80% FTE

Actual Salary £14,416 - £15,638

We wish to appoint a Senior Design and Technology Technician to join us on a part-time basis, for two or three days a week, starting as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible, together with the current postholder, for the preparation of teaching materials, stock control and the maintenance of tools and machines for the department, predominantly in the area of Resistant Materials (wood, plastic, etc.). There are also technicians for Food and Textiles in the team. Our technician team also work closely with teaching staff to provide in-class support and with small groups, as well as having some involvement with extra-curricular activities. 

The department is extremely well-equipped and the technician should ideally be comfortable working with all tools and machinery, although training will be provided as necessary. Students study the Design & Technology disciplines on a rotation basis at Key Stage 3, and due to the popularity of the subjects, there is also a thriving Key Stage 4 provision.

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for experience in an education setting, or for those already in the sector and wishing to work as part of a cohesive and highly supportive staff team. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and a good general level of education. Experience of working with young people and/or in schools is useful, but not essential. It is always more important for us to find the ‘right person’ who will be a fit for our team; we look for excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to young people across the age and ability range.
