Head of Equestrian Degrees (Maternity Cover – 1 Year)
Salary: Up to £40,593 (depending on qualifications and experience)

University Centre Sparsholt is seeking a motivated and experienced academic leader to join us as Subject Lead for Equestrian Degrees during a 12-month maternity cover. This role offers the opportunity to shape the direction of our equine programmes and guide a committed academic team within one of the UK’s most respected providers of equestrian higher education.
As Head of Equestrian Degrees, you will be responsible for leading a portfolio of innovative and industry-relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses. You'll provide academic leadership, ensure excellence in teaching and learning, support staff development, and maintain strong industry links.
You will play a central role in sustaining the academic rigour and practical relevance of our curriculum, helping students to develop the knowledge and skills that meet the evolving needs of the equine industry.

Our Equine Centre is a British Horse Society (BHS) approved examination centre and a hub of professional teaching and research. Key facilities include:
• 60×23 metre indoor arena and three outdoor arenas (up to 70×50 metres)
• Extensive hacking and cross-country schooling field
Our growing research activities utilise specialist equipment including:
• Fully equipped laboratories and stables fitted with infrared cameras and behavioural sensors
• Advanced technologies including:
o Delsys and Biometrics EMG analysis systems
o Heart rate monitors
o Quintic, Qualisys, and Visual3D biomechanical analysis software
o Thermal imaging camera
o Avansce Ltd’s Synchronicity rein analysis system
o ETB Pegasus GaitSmart system
o IPOS rein sensors
o Equisense GPS sensors
o High-definition 3D motion capture and data analysis cameras
Our Equine Centre also hosts a year-round calendar of affiliated and unaffiliated show jumping and dressage competitions, providing students with real-world event experience. In addition, students have the opportunity to engage in applied research through our Research Academy, supporting dissertations and industry-relevant projects.
About You
You will have:
• A strong academic background in equine science or a related discipline (at least MSc with academic experience )
• Experience in curriculum leadership and academic management within higher education
• A commitment to innovation, student success, and academic excellence
• The ability to inspire and support both staff and students
• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
