About Us

WHO WE ARE

Welcome to the website for St John’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery, Midsomer Norton. At St. John's we recognise and develop the unique gifts and personal qualities of all.

Our mission is a simple one: 'Building A Firm Foundation for Learning and Caring'. We aim to provide an outstanding education which equips our children with the confidence to love learning, as well as the care and respect for others which will ensure their lifelong success.

The school is a happy, stimulating and caring place that allows each child to grow and develop in the knowledge of Christ, the world and themselves. Our Christian values support all of our work, and our committed team of staff and governors make sure that every child feels nurtured, respected and proud to belong to the community of St. John’s.

St. John’s is a Church of England Primary School situated close to the centre of the small town of Midsomer Norton, which is within the Unitary Authority of Bath & North East Somerset. The School took on academy status in December 2013.

The school, founded in 1721, is proud of its long tradition but is also forward looking. It is situated on a large site with a playing field and Early Years playing facilities to the rear of the building. The school is popular and demand for places is high. There is a thriving Parent’s Association that raises funds to support the school.

This year there are 420 children on roll in 14 classrooms (two per year group). There are 19 teachers including the Headteacher.

The ‘good’ inspection by Ofsted in October 2016 was followed by the Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools in November 2015 . The SIAMS Inspection judged the school to be outstanding in all four areas.

PART OF MIDSOMER NORTON SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP

The Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership was founded in 2009 following the hard federation between Norton Hill and Somervale Secondary Schools. Since this point the Trust has grown to include other secondary schools and a large number of primary schools, which are all located in the Southwest of England: Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset and North Somerset. The full list of schools that are members of the Trust are shown above.

Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership provides support and challenge to all of our schools so that our entire community of children and young people can achieve their best. The unique character of each school is celebrated and nurtured to ensure choice and variety in educational provision. The Trust is committed to providing a broad, balanced and aspirational curriculum in all of its schools, so that all children and young people develop the character and qualifications needed to open doors to their future success. A strong focus on developing and providing inspirational teaching and leadership in all schools, through school-to-school improvement, ensures outstanding progress and educational enjoyment for all members of our partnership’s community.
