St Joseph’s Specialist Trust are looking for a dynamic class teacher to join our team. Having been reviewed by Ofsted Education in February 2023 we are currently rated Outstanding, we are also accredited by the National Autistic Society and hold the Autism Education Trust Schools Licence for Surrey. St Joseph’s is pleased and proud to provide opportunities for teachers to develop and build their expertise in the field of SEND.

Applicants should be qualified teachers, ideally with experience in a SEN setting. We will accept applications for NQTs and ECTs. You will lead a class alongside Therapists, of up to 14 students supported by a dedicated team including Higher Level Teaching Assistants and TAs. Our education team, working with our integrated therapy team, enable the students to access and enjoy therapy-based education.

This is an excellent opportunity if you are approachable and professional with empathy and understanding for the needs of our students. You will be encouraged and supported to further develop your skills and knowledge by undertaking regular CPD opportunities. All Teachers with QTS may be asked to take on leadership of a subject and this will be discussed on an individual basis at interview.

St Joseph’s is a registered charitable trust comprising specialist school, college and registered children’s home working with vulnerable children and young people with complex needs and two supported living houses for young adults. Our 70+ students are aged 5 to 19 years old with complex learning disabilities and severe social communication and behavioural issues, many with autism.

All our staff need compassion and empathy and the drive to make a real difference to the lives of our young people. If you are recruited, you will be required to complete Team Teach positive behaviour support training as part of your induction before employment. Physical and mental resilience are essential qualities in all our employees.

What are we looking for?

• Common Sense: you will need to work in a team and dynamically risk assess challenging situations to keep yourself and others safe.

• Excellent Communication skills: you will need to be able to communicate effectively with all staff, children, families and professionals and make your classes engaging and interesting.

• Patience: you will need to adapt to the pace of each individual young person and be able to remain calm when faced with anxious, emotional or frustrated behaviours
