Head of House (Teaching)

MPS/UPS plus TLR2c (£7,314 at current rates)

Full-time, Permanent (flexible hours considered)

To start: 1st September 2024

We wish to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced teacher to this post. The Head of House role is an essential element of our pastoral structure, providing leadership of the team of 10 tutors and the Assistant Head of House and overseeing the care, wellbeing and academic progress of all students in the House. We are looking for a colleague with the professionalism, passion and vision to take on this leadership position and to contribute to the continuing development of our pastoral provision at St Laurence.

Main Duties:

These are in addition to those described in the generic job description for Teachers

House Leadership and development:

  •  To maintain and strengthen the Y7-13 House ethos within the vertical whole-School framework and the need to integrate horizontal (Year) considerations
  •  To lead and manage the Assistant Head of House (Associate Staff), ensuring that s/he is deployed effectively
  •  To lead a team of tutors and manage their performance in line with whole-School policies
  •  To monitor students’ academic, attendance and performance data across the House in collaboration with senior leaders, in order to secure and maintain good progress   for all students
  •  To monitor the progress of vulnerable students, including those in the Pupil Premium categories, managing individual intervention plans in liaison with senior leaders   and other staff involved in intervention
  •  To monitor the progress of SEND students, contributing to individual intervention plans, as required, in liaison with the SEND team.
  •  To ensure effective communication within the House and with colleagues, parents and external agencies.
  •  To devolve responsibility to tutors for the appropriate personal development and well-being of all students
  •  To organise a tutorial programme in collaboration with other Heads of House and relevant staff at the School
  •  To develop the role of the house Council and ensure that ‘student voice’ is heard
  •  To assist with transition of students from one phase to another in liaison with senior leaders and other staff involved in transition
