We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic part-time Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join our safeguarding team.
The role of the Deputy DSL is to support the day-to-day management of safeguarding and child protection across the school, working with the Deputy Headteacher as DSL, who retains lead responsibility.

About the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead Position
The position is for 17.50 hours per week, ideally spread over 3 days, 39 weeks a year (term time only) with unpaid breaks. Working hours will be agreed with the successful candidate although some flexibility will be needed as there are times during the year when certain tasks have more prominence.
This is a very varied, interesting role and plays an integral part of the school’s support system. Reporting to the DSL, you will work closely with the Safeguarding Team as one of the key points of contact regarding student welfare and child protection related matters.
The Deputy DSL will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.
You will take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment of students.

About You:
• Ideally educated to Degree level with GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
• Ideally, you should have already completed the Surrey CC DSL mandatory training modules, including new to role training.
• Experience of managing safeguarding in a school or other relevant organisation
• Expert knowledge of legislation and guidance on safeguarding and working with young people
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
• Good IT skills, including previous use of CPOMS is desirable
• Good interpersonal skills
• A calm and effective communicator with a sound understanding of issues affecting young people that can impact on their future.
• Excellent record keeping skills and attention to detail with experience of handling sensitive data and upholding the principals of confidentiality.
• Confident in implementing and encouraging good safeguarding practice throughout the school.

Surrey Pay Scale PS7 - £32,512 to £34,654 FTE**
