We’re seeking to recruit a new Academy Council chair for St Augustine’s Academy in Maidstone, Kent. As a chair, you’ll be leading the Academy Council in providing support, challenge and advice to the Principal and Senior Leadership team. This is a voluntary role.

Now is an exciting time for the Trust with the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer and the development of a new strategy to set the direction of the Trust over the coming years. The vision statement is expressed in the following six words: “Opening minds; raising expectations; Transforming lives.”

This is a stimulating and rewarding opportunity to use your expertise to contribute to and drive the strategic direction of this academy in challenging times during and post Covid-19 and beyond. We’re looking for candidates with strong leadership, governance, management and communication skills, an interest in the local communities the academy serves and a determination to see St Augustine’s Academy meet its mission and improve performance through good governance and effective strategic leadership.

The time commitment is 15 to 20 hours per academic term, including full academy council meetings, attendance of panels such as appeals and disciplinary hearings, and school visits. Academy council meetings are scheduled six times a year (currently via videoconference).

The Woodard Academies Trust was established in 2007 as part of the Woodard Group of schools which was founded by Nathaniel Woodard in 1848. Our Trust comprises of six geographically dispersed academies serving diverse communities from the North East to the south coast, including some academies situated in areas of social disadvantage.
