Inspire creativity and problem‑solving. Shape futures. Thrive in a high‑performing, supportive college.

Start Date 18th August 2026

We are a high performing sixth form college with an ambitious vision for Design & Technology and Engineering, and we are looking for a passionate Teacher of OCR A Level Design & Technology (Design Engineering) to join our forward thinking team.

This post is available on a full‑time, part‑time (0.5 FTE or above), or job‑share basis, and we are genuinely open to shaping the role around the strengths, experience, and availability of the successful candidate(s). If you are an excellent Design Engineering specialist seeking reduced hours or a more flexible working pattern, we strongly encourage you to apply or to contact us for an informal discussion.

This is an opportunity to teach motivated, high achieving students in a college that genuinely values collaboration, realistic workload, and professional trust.

Why Join Us?

Outstanding facilities — designed for real engineering

Workshop facilities include:

  • 3D printers
  • Laser cutting
  • CNC routing
  • Engineering machining processes

  • Circuit Wizard

A genuinely supportive and skilled team

You’ll work alongside:

  • Two experienced and supportive D&T teachers (Product Design and AAQ Engineering)
  • An experienced technician with teaching experience
  • A friendly, close‑knit department that will actively support:

                       - Skill development where needed — without judgement

                       - Induction into college systems

  • Training and mentoring are available for staff developing their engineering specialism, teachers transitioning from secondary school to A Level teaching, and Early Career Teachers.

This is a team that shares ideas, helps each other out, and wants everyone to succeed.

A college that takes workload seriously

We don’t just talk about workload — we plan for it:

  • Protected planning and preparation time
  • Collapsed classes at high‑pressure points such as mock marking
  • Strong support teams including:

                   - Progress tutors

                   - Inclusive learning specialists

                   - Mental health professionals

                   - A proactive careers team that works closely with the department

                   - Timetabled support sessions for students, with no need to give up lunchtimes or stay late

We trust teachers, minimise unnecessary admin, and invest strongly in CPD.

The department and its direction

  • Strong and growing provision in Engineering
  • Typically two Year 12 and two Year 13 Design Engineering classes within the department
  • Expansion of the department with the addition of Engineering AAQ in September
  • Enrichment activities such as Inspiring Engineers built into timetabled time, not added workload

We support, collaborate, and enjoy each other’s company.
