Teacher of English - 1 FTE

Teach English in a focused sixth‑form environment with motivated students and strong support.

We are seeking a passionate and committed Teacher of English to join our successful and collaborative department at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College. This is an excellent opportunity to teach English within a clearly structured post‑16 setting that allows teachers to focus on subject expertise and high‑quality teaching.

The role

In this role, you will deliver high-quality English teaching while supporting students to achieve strong academic outcomes and develop as confident, independent learners. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching GCSE English, A Level English Literature and A Level Language and English Literature
  • Supporting students to develop confidence, literacy, critical thinking and independent learning
  • Contributing to a reflective and high performing English department
  • Teaching English as an additional language (EAL) (desirable)
  • Teaching other subjects such as Media Studies and/or Film Studies (desirable)

How the role is structured

Teaching at St Brendan’s is carefully organised to provide clarity, consistency and strong professional support, allowing you to focus on your subject and your students. This includes:

  • No tutor group attached to the post
  • No routine lunch or break duties
  • Pastoral support led primarily by dedicated progress tutors
  • Student support sessions are timetabled, not informal or ad‑hoc
  • Collaborative planning and shared departmental resources

About you

We welcome applications from teachers who are enthusiastic about English and committed to inclusive, high-quality teaching. You will ideally have:

Qualified English teachers with GCSE experience

Teachers able to offer EAL and/or Media or Film Studies (desirable, not essential)

Early Career Teachers seeking strong post‑16 support

Teachers interested in developing their practice in a sixth‑form setting

You will be enthusiastic about English, committed to inclusive teaching and keen to support young people to achieve their potential.
