We are an area primary school located close to Kingsbridge in Devon. The school is set in spacious grounds flanked with mature trees, with a woodland stream safely running through the site. There is ample room for all the children to play throughout the year with the linked playgrounds, soft terrace area and grassy field areas.
We have seven classes starting in Foundation Stage going through to Year 6. Each Year Group has its own class. The school was built in 1968 and the classrooms are located in three “hubs” with easy access for all into the large hall in the centre. All seven classrooms have interactive whiteboards and access to state of the art ICT equipment. We have experienced Teaching Assistants who support the teaching and learning throughout the school and deliver short-term intervention programs for individual children, when needed.
Our facilities include a heated swimming pool, climbing wall, climbing equipment, on site kitchen, sports field and a covered area for outside play for our smallest children. Disabled access is not an issue with all classrooms on the level. We have two hard-surface playgrounds, one for the younger children, the other for the older children, as well as lovely playing fields and a wooded area; providing plenty of space for everyone to learn and have fun.
Within Stokenham Area Primary School, we aim to provide a stimulating, safe and structured environment; where children’s enthusiasm to learn is encouraged and where the unique personality of each child is valued.
We aim to develop and extend children’s basic skills under pinning the whole curriculum alongside their creative talents and their moral, social, spiritual and cultural understanding of the world.
We aim to equip children with the knowledge and confidence necessary to enable them to contribute effectively in their rapidly changing world.
We promote equity and equality for all members of our school family.
We actively work together to educate all of our children about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good mental health by promoting both healthy eating and the importance of an active physical lifestyle.
We aim to meet the children’s expectations of the school which include:
Feeling good to be there
It being interesting and helpful
To have fun
Bringing learning to life
To feel safe and secure
To have a go at new challenges and learn from each other.
