Thorpe CofE Primary School seeks an experienced Special Needs Assistant to provide support in Year 4. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8.40am to 3pm with a 15 minute unpaid morning break and 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Included within this contract is half an hour of lunchtime support in the playground.

This is a term time only contract commencing ASAP. 

Under the direction and supervision of the class teacher core responsibilities include:

  • Working on a one to one basis as a Special Needs Assistant  in Year 4
  • Following the instructions of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Planning and prioritising tasks
  • Clarifying and explaining instructions 
  • Communicating effectively
  • Motivating pupils to learn
  • Organising the learning environment

Key Accountabilities will be:

  • Assisting in the delivery of day to day learning activities
  • Discussing with and reporting back to teacher on the planning and assessment of the pupil’s work
  • Organising and maintaining the learning environment
  • Working as part of a team
  • Maintaining confidentiality inside and outside the workplace
  • Understanding and applying school policies

The Special Needs Assistant may be required to undertake any other reasonable tasks as required by the class teacher
