Welcome to the St Stephen’s CofE Junior school website. We are delighted that you are taking the time to find out about our wonderful school. We hope that we are able to give you a ‘feel’ for the life of our special community.
St. Stephen's is a happy, vibrant and friendly school in the Soundwell area of South Gloucestershire. Currently we have 353 children organised into 12 classes. We offer a distinctive Christian ethos with a clear vision for excellence which is shared by all staff. We have a dedicated team of Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Governors who work tirelessly to deliver the best education possible for all of our children. Our aim is to instill a love of learning in the children, to give them the best possible start to their education and to give them happy memories of their time with us which they will keep forever. Please watch the clip below to find out more about a day in the life at St. Stephens.

OUR VISION
We want our learners to understand and respect the world they have been given and to believe that they can change the world, for the better. By the end of their time at St. Stephen's, our learners will be equipped with the mind-set and skills to continue their journey as 'change makers'.
In Learning to Change the World, our learners will be encouraged in exploration, innovation and ambition.
Exploration: engagement, research, discovery
Innovation: practice, mistakes, solutions
Ambition: desire, drive, challenge, achieve
Through these aspects we purposefully expose learners to the world as it is, and enable them to re-imagine how it could be by enhancing their own experience. We intend to increase their ability to engage, challenge and communicate what they know powerfully to different audiences whilst promoting Christian values and developing their social and emotional resilience. We want to understand where society has come from and where it could go. Our ambition for learners is expecting them to apply skills and knowledge gained to generate real, practical solutions that will change the world around them.
Using the United Nations Global Goals as a vehicle, our enquiry-led curriculum will enable them to explore, innovate and be ambitious for the future and beyond.
We would like our learners to show curiosity and empathy, upholding values of justice and mercy in a humble way so that, through their actions, they can have a positive impact on their world and on those who share it with them.
OUR VALUES
'Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.’ Our vision is underpinned by Micah 6:8
As a church school, values are at our core and underpin everything that we do. We teach our learners to understand the values of JUSTICE, MERCY and HUMILITY and ensure that they are able to, along with associated values, display these values in everything they do so that we can change the world.
St. Stephen's Church is proud of its historic connection with school, and the contribution church members have made throughout the history of the school. It is wonderful that our relationship with one another is still strong and growing – with members of the Church community as school Governors and in helping and supporting the school in lots of other ways of ways.
St Stephen’s Church is a friendly and growing bunch or people, of all different ages, committed to a journey of connecting with God, with each other and with the community in which we belong. We meet in a variety of ways and in different groups throughout the week, for fun, friendship, to learn about God and to try to meet the varying needs of the community in Soundwell. Some of our families span three or four generations, others are brand new to faith – but everyone is equally welcome.
Throughout the school year, the children and staff at St Stephen’s Junior school come to the church to celebrate important festivals in the Christian year- these are well attended by the parents, carers, families and friends of the school and you are most welcome to come along at these times or to our main Sunday service at 10am.
Every blessing
Revd Lisa Wigmore | Priest-in-charge (aka The Vicar)

As a group of twelve Church and Community Schools across South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire we want to formalise our collaborative model of working. We believe that as a family of schools forming a Trust we can achieve:
Deliberate and purposeful collaboration which strengthens and builds capacity at all levels.
A strong, highly skilled, and resilient trustee and governance structure which focuses on enabling and empowering people.
School environments where all children, particularly those that face disadvantage can flourish and where equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging are front and centre.
Professional growth and development that creates cultures and communities of improvement.
A sense of civic duty underpinned by the Charitable status where we can benefit from sharing our learning but also learning from others.
Financial stability through robust systems and structures.
We are a strong family of schools that serve diverse communities including two of the most deprived wards in South Gloucestershire and schools that are faith based, rural and small. We would want to work alongside the Diocese, Local Authorities and Academy partners as the Trust grows and develops.
