The Vacancy
Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Swindon Academy: Alton Close Primary Site, Penhill, Swindon, Wiltshire
Salary: Actual: £22,458 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Start date: ASAP
Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding challenge working with children? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
The role
We have a great opportunity to appoint a new Cover Supervisor here at Alton Close Primary School which is part of Swindon Academy. You will play a fundamental role in supporting a mixed of planned cover for school leaders and reactive cover requirements for absent teachers across the full age range.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and professional person who can effectively manage classroom behaviour, introduce and support cover work and ensure lesson outcomes are achieved in the absence of the class teacher across a range of subjects. They will be able to help all students at Alton Close understand the value of their learning, be able to facilitate a happy and productive classroom experience and be a positive role model to all students they work with.
Cover Supervisors at Alton Close can access the same outstanding training activities and support we offer to our class teachers, and there is a great opportunity to take a full role in school life alongside the cover duties.
What you offer
You will first and foremost be a reliable person, with the organisation and communication skills required to effectively manage the cover provision at the school and in doing so build positive relationships with Phase Leaders, Year Leads and SLT. You will be reflective and resilient in the face of setbacks and be open to making improvements to the systems and processes around you.
Being familiar with a school setting and the systems that govern it is advantageous as it will allow you to navigate the unique challenges of the classroom. This may have been achieved through other appointments in other cover supervisor roles, as a teaching assistant, teaching, mentoring, or work completed in other youth organisations. This role may also be suitable for qualified teachers – from any discipline – who are looking for a different professional challenge whilst retaining experience in the classroom.
What Alton Close offers
The successful candidate will be joining a team that is firmly committed to making Alton Close one of the best schools in the UK. The value of being part of a great team should never be underestimated. Being a member of AC means you will be joining a supportive and talented group of staff who will invest in your professional development. This role will be excellent preparation for your future career, wherever that may take you. There is the possibility of training to teach in the future if you are interested. Further information about the unique benefits and strengths of Alton Close can be found via our Swindon Academy website.
United Learning
We are part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.
Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.
As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
