About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring and driven Assistant Head of Alternative Provision to join our leadership team. This is a key role supporting the Head of AP in delivering outstanding education, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and student outcomes across our provision.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping strategic direction, leading staff, and driving improvement—while ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding and student welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Alternative Provision
  • Lead on quality of education, including curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, behaviour and attainment, using data to inform improvement
  • Provide inspirational leadership to staff, including coaching, mentoring, and appraisals
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the AP Development Plan
  • Support safeguarding and welfare of all students
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, external agencies and commissioners
  • Lead on staff development and continuous professional learning
  • Model best practice, particularly in trauma-informed and relational approaches


About You

We are looking for a passionate leader who:

  • Has proven leadership experience within education (AP, SEND or vocational settings preferred)
  • Demonstrates a strong track record of excellent teaching and raising standards
  • Has experience delivering or leading vocational pathways (e.g. BTEC, ASDAN, City & Guilds)
  • Understands quality assurance processes, including IV/EV and assessment practices
  • Has strong knowledge of SEND, safeguarding and alternative provision frameworks
  • Is confident in data analysis, self-evaluation and driving improvement
  • Can lead, motivate and inspire staff and students alike


Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Training in SEMH, ASD or other specialist areas
  • Leadership or management qualifications
