Aurora Chaldon School

As part of our growth strategy, The Aurora Group are really pleased have recently opened a brand new SEND Secondary School in September 2025 in Chaldon, Surrey for young people aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All of our students have access to a broad and exciting curriculum, allied to the national curriculum, personalised to meet their needs, interests and passions. With a model of small classes, high levels of classroom support and a supernumerary multi-disciplinary intervention team we are able to give students “every opportunity to achieve”

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative teacher with a passion for Food Technology and a commitment to delivering engaging, practical learning experiences that inspire young people. The successful candidate will enjoy helping students develop valuable life skills, independence and confidence through a hands-on curriculum.

As a growing and innovative specialist school, we value adaptable practitioners who are keen to contribute to the wider curriculum and school community. Whilst Food Technology will be the primary focus of this role, there may be opportunities over time to teach or support learning in other subject areas, reflecting both your individual strengths and interests and the evolving needs of our students. This flexibility offers excellent opportunities for professional development and the chance to make a broader impact across the school.

The main purpose of the role:

The purpose of the Food Technology Teacher role is to deliver high quality teaching and learning for children and young people with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs, typically associated with autism. Some pupils may have multiple learning difficulties and may present with some challenging behaviours.

Key duties:

To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.

To work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

To maintain and use short, medium and long term plans in delivering the curriculum.

To set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual.

To monitor, assess, review and report on the progress and work of students to parents, team members, senior staff, examination and funding bodies through reports and identified meetings as directed and as is required through school policies and procedures.

To develop lesson plans analysing and self-reflecting on the outcomes.

To contribute to the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP and LAC reviews.

To provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.

To maintain an overall awareness of current issues in the field of autism in order to be able to plan for effective teaching and learning.

To work in a non-confrontational way to ensure individual needs are met.

To appropriately manage challenging behaviours within the school policy and procedures.

Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.
