Your Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead on Physical Literacy across the school, supporting pupils to develop motivation, confidence, and competence in movement. This role focuses on fostering a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity, rather than just skill acquisition.

The successful candidate will develop an active and physical curriculum that provides positive, varied and inclusive activities for all. The physical literacy programme will incorporate pupil interests and utilise sporting and recreational facilities on and offsite, nurturing engagement in activities such as swimming, climbing and fitness at local gym provisions.

An important aspect of this role will be supporting pupils to achieve recognised outcomes, including delivering AQA Awards and enabling pupils to gain sport- and fitness-specific accreditations.

Key Duties

Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils in line with school policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT

Under the guidance of a teacher, support the delivery of learning activities and a broad, balanced curriculum

Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn

Work closely with pupils to support their understanding, providing additional explanations where needed

Assist in gathering evidence to support pupil attainment and progress

Participate in the evaluation of learning activities

Provide meaningful feedback on pupil progress and achievement

Support teachers with monitoring, assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil progress

Successful Candidate Qualities

Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or higher

GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths

Ability to teach a variety of AQA Awards, as well as support pupil gain activity specific sport and fitness awards (Essential)

Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD, and ASD

Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures

Experience managing a range of behaviours, including behaviours that challenge

Experience working within education (desirable)

Experience working within a multicultural, inclusive setting
