As part of our growth strategy, we are really pleased to have opened a new SEND Secondary School in the heart of Horsham, West Sussex for autistic young people aged 11-16. We work creatively with young people to support them in navigating barriers to learning and work collaboratively to help them flourish into confident and capable members of their community. They work in small classes, with adapted national curriculum lessons and iGCSE courses, alongside personal development and special interest learning.

The Role:

We are looking to expand our team, to include a teacher with a passion for supporting young people with special educational needs, particularly autism and associated differences. We will be looking for someone with the flexibility to teach different subjects. Experience of teaching humanities, PSHE, science or maths at any level would be advantageous. Pastoral support, including being a tutor, will be part of this teaching role and we are on the look out for a teacher who is enthused and excited to be part of a growing and developing institution.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • They have successfully supported students with special educational needs in a teaching role
  • Resourcefulness, resilience and a growth mindset
  • Flexibility and ability to respond dynamically on a day-to-day basis, with an ability to plan personalised learning
  • Experience as a form tutor
  • Be confident in managing a classroom environment

It is also preferable for candidates to have experience:

  • of teaching in a SEND provision or working collaboratively with a SENDCO
  • working with a social/emotional support approach such as PACE, Thrive or similar
  • working with students aged 11-16, including in preparing students for qualifications

Candidates must:

  • be a qualified teacher This role is not suitable for ECT1.
  • have a passion to work in SEND and willingness to keep learning
  • be outstanding in their pastoral and safeguarding practice
  • believe in an integrated therapeutic approach

  • provide evidence that you are already receiving an Upper Pay Scale salary.
  • Hold specific allocated responsibility, once you have completed your induction, that contributes to whole school improvement including the overall raising of standards in the school and demonstrate their ongoing commitment to their own CPD.
