Are you a passionate Speech and Language Therapist looking for an opportunity where your expertise can make a genuine difference to children and young people?

We are looking for a caring, creative and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the team at Aurora Mansfield School and multiple sites across the Mansfield area. Working as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will help pupils develop the communication skills they need to engage with learning, build relationships and become more independent.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will provide high-quality assessment and intervention, develop individual communication programmes and work closely with education teams, families, carers and other professionals.

The Role

As our Speech and Language Therapist, you will manage and prioritise your own caseload, providing both direct and indirect therapy through one-to-one sessions, small-group interventions and classroom-based support.

You will assess pupils' speech, language and social communication needs, create tailored therapy programmes and monitor progress against agreed outcomes. You will also contribute to EHCP annual reviews, multi-disciplinary meetings and the wider development of communication practice across the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Completing initial and ongoing assessments of pupils' speech, language and social communication skills
• Writing professional assessment and progress reports
• Developing, implementing and reviewing individual communication programmes
• Delivering one-to-one, small-group and classroom-based interventions
• Creating accessible visual resources, including Social Stories and visual timetables
• Producing communication aims for Individual Education Plans and EHCPs
• Developing and maintaining Personal Communication Passports
• Supporting a Total Communication approach across the school
• Modelling communication techniques such as signing, symbol use, language modification and intensive interaction
• Supporting the use of appropriate low-tech and high-tech AAC and assistive technology
• Providing advice, guidance and training to staff, families and carers
• Working alongside education colleagues, therapists and external professionals
• Supporting and supervising therapy assistants where required
• Monitoring outcomes and adapting interventions to meet individual needs
• Contributing to annual reviews, behaviour support planning and other multi-disciplinary meetings
• Making referrals for specialist dysphagia assessment or advice where appropriate
• Maintaining accurate, timely and confidential clinical records.

We are looking for someone who is committed to improving outcomes for pupils and who can build positive, professional relationships with children, families and colleagues.

You will need:

• A professional Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
• Registered membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
• Experience of working with children or young people with learning disabilities
• Experience of supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions
• Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
• Knowledge of therapeutic interventions for people with learning disabilities
• An understanding of behaviour support and safeguarding
• Knowledge of how trauma and adverse childhood experiences can affect communication
• The ability to assess needs and develop integrated therapy plans
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organisation and time-management skills
• Good IT skills for administration, recording, reporting and presentations
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
• Experience of Makaton or Signalong, specialist communication software, complex needs, PMLD, SEMH or the EHCP process would be advantageous. Completed NQP competencies and at least one year of post-graduate paediatric experience are also desirable.
