Francis Askew Primary School are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, reliable, efficient and friendly Attendance Officer. The post holder will work within a specialist attendance team to help the school raise achievement by improving school attendance and punctuality, and to meet our attendance targets. The post holder will be involved with the promotion of positive attitudes by pupils and their families towards education and ensuring that parents are made fully aware of their statutory responsibilities, particularly where there is persistent absence.

In this role you will make unsupervised home visits and attend meetings both at school and off site. The role will hold a caseload of vulnerable young people and will be responsible for tracking attendance and engagement, keeping accurate records on school systems. The successful candidate will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support all manner of admin tasks.

Salary: Grade 6, Point 14 £29,540 - Point 19 £32,061 pro rata for 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 12.30pm, term time only, plus 5 additional training days (39 weeks per year).

Principal Responsibilities

• Monitor and record attendance on a daily basis using the School’s system and manually input late marks for students.

• Follow up first day absences and input attendance marks.

• Work closely with the School Nurse and make referrals where necessary.

• Send out text/email messages on behalf of the School regarding attendance examinations, detentions, Parents’ Evenings and the return to school of students when requested.

• Identify barriers to attendance in order to seek solutions to improve attendance.

• Liaise with parents of absent students and those with low attendance and arrange transport where necessary. Prepare cases for the Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) in the aggravated route for presentation.

• Monitor all home visits undertaken by colleagues and ensure the IT systems remains up to date with relevant information.

• Create and distribute letters to parents of students with 100% attendance in the School. Write appropriate procedural letters to parents and send out text alerts.

• Produce fire drill registers and hand out and check on missing students with lead person; produce SOS registers in the case of any emergency.

• Maintain up-to-date files, including holiday letters, medical and manual registers.

• Undertake other administrative tasks to support the School upon request.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to their post. Moreover, the post holder may be asked to perform other duties, which reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
