The Priory Learning Trust is looking to recruit a passionate and caring individual as a Pastoral Learning Support Assistant to work at Berrow Primary Church Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who would relish the chance to support children to engage with learning, feel successful and to achieve the best they can. The successful applicant will be able to form strong positive relationships with individuals and be motivated to remove any potential barriers to learning. We are looking for an individual who wants to make a difference to young people and their educational experience.

Berrow has wonderful children who are really keen to learn and supportive families who work closely with the school. The school has a dedicated, caring staff team who work creatively, in partnership with other schools across our Trust, to enable children to achieve great outcomes. We place great emphasis on supporting children on a social and emotional level and have a strong ethos of inclusion and belonging in line with our Church vision and values.

We are part of The Priory Learning Trust, comprising of local primary and secondary schools, enabling us to work closely with a range of practitioners from all phases of education. This is a very exciting time for Berrow and a fantastic time to join us.

This role focuses on supporting the wider operations of Pastoral Support and Safeguarding within the Academy.

What you will do:

  • Promote children’s well-being by encouraging them to develop good relationships with others. Motivate and empower them to develop their self-regulation and self- esteem and help them to adjust to new challenges.
  • Work closely with staff at all levels in both teaching and support roles as well as with parents and students to ensure the safeguarding, mental health and behaviour provision of the Academy operates effectively.
  • Work closely with families and children, creating supportive relationships and signposting them to available help.
  • Contribute to the school-wide management of behaviour with all children and especially those who, at times, struggle in school.
  • Assist in tracking complex student needs, coordinating multi-professional support and focussing school strategy on key safeguarding and mental health needs under the direction of the Safeguarding team, SENDCo and Principal.

About you:

  • Have a desire to make a positive impact on children's education
  • Ability to adhere to working procedures and policies within the school environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Good ICT skills
  • Patient, flexible and adaptable, meticulous and conscientious
  • Ability to manage own time effectively

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and warmly welcomed. Please contact Debbie Parker at the school to arrange an appointment.

At the Priory Learning Trust, we offer a comprehensive employee benefits package including:

  • Access to the PLaTform - where you can find exclusive shopping discounts and offers, and a dedicated wellbeing centre.
  • Access for all employees to a Healthcare service and healthcare cash back plan - this is fully funded for all employees and their dependants.
  • Discounted childcare on our Little Learners and Pre-schools for all parents and grandparents.
  • A contributory pension scheme, offering generous employee contribution rates.
  • A Cycle to Work scheme.

The Priory Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All paid positions which involve working regularly within academies are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You must declare all convictions (including convictions with Absolute Discharge), cautions or bind-overs you may have, even if they would otherwise be regarded as ‘Spent’ under this Act and where applicable any disqualifications under the Childcare Act.

The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’ and are not subject to disclosure to employers, and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service filtering guide.

This role involves working with children on a daily basis and is therefore in regulated activity.

Offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references, online searches and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance.
