The successful candidate will play a vital role in the success of the school and will be integral to our future development. Whilst applicants may have worked with young people in some capacity, specific experience is less important than a dedication to professional development alongside a flexible and committed teamwork approach.
The Head of Year role plays a vital part in ensuring our students are safe, behave well, are happy at school, attend regularly and enjoy learning. Heads of Year support students to become citizens of the future, focusing on our school’s STEER values (Success, Together, Enjoyment, Engagement and Responsibility).

We have been consistently rated as an “Outstanding” school by Ofsted, in 2009, 2012, 2018 and most recently 2024, where inspectors found that “The Market Bosworth School has high expectations of what pupils can achieve. Pupils’ outcomes at the end of key stage 4 are exceptional.”
This is an exciting time for the School, as we build on our now established GCSE achievements, where we have consistently achieved results within the top 5% of all schools. For our most recent 2026 results, 94% of all GCSEs taken were at grade 4 to 9.
The Pastoral Team operates across the whole school offering care and guidance to students to enable them to achieve their best academically and socially. The role of Head of Year is both rewarding and challenging. They are instrumental in creating and supporting positive change in our students’ lives.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for one year group of approximately 170 students. Each year group has between 7 and 9 tutor groups. The Head of Year is the central point of contact for all students in that year group. Their day to day work is primarily with students, tutors and other pastoral staff, but it will also include communication with a wide and varied range of staff and stakeholders across the school and community.
The core purpose of the Head of Year role is:
• To ensure that students are safe, attend school regularly, behave well, enjoy learning, do their best and are happy at school.
• To help students become knowledgeable, civilised and caring young adults who are excited about their future.
Each day can be varied, therefore a flexible “can do” approach within the pastoral team is essential to success.

The recruitment process is robust in seeking to establish the commitment of candidates to support the school’s measures to safeguard children and to identify, deter or reject people who might pose a risk of harm to children or are otherwise unsuited to work with them. As this post is required to work in “Regulated Activity” an enhanced DBS with a Barred list check is essential.
