We are looking to recruit a Reading Mentor to join our passionate and progressive Library Team, to support students who are below their age related expectations in reading ability and/or who are disengaged with reading and help them access the curriculum and enable them to make exceptional progress.. We are looking to appoint a positive and enthusiastic person to join our highly supportive and growing team, who wants to work in a school where:

  • students of all ages and abilities readily demonstrate an eagerness to learn and make progress across the curriculum;

  • the school’s progress 8 score is significantly above average at +1.0 for two consecutive years and ranked in the top 5% nationally;
  • professional Learning is a priority and time for this is integrated into the school day;
  • all students, teachers and parents share a common vision to "make a positive difference".

The Reading Mentor role involves assessing students’ reading ages at key intervals during their school career as well as assessing new starters in all years, delivering reading programmes that support students who are below their age-related expectation in reading, with their learning and achievement, as well as coordination of intervention for reluctant readers across KS3 and KS4 (such as paired reading, developing students’ ability to read complex academic texts, reading competitions in collaboration with the library etc) as well as liaising with teachers to develop resources to support students’ learning in lessons. The successful candidate should be able to engage, motivate and support children, staff and parents.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Disclosure check.
