The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly skilled teacher of additional learning needs.  We are looking for an outstanding practitioner who is committed to delivering the highest quality learning experiences to the pupils in their care; and to raising their aspirations.  The successful candidate will primarily be required to teach pupils in small, discrete ALN classes at key stage 3 and 4.  In years 7-9, the post holder will need to be confident in delivering across the curriculum (excluding specialist subjects such as Science and Technology) within a flexible and needs-led provision model. For this reason, we would consider primary as well as secondary-trained teachers for this post. In years 10 & 11 our ALN pupils engage with pathways such as the BTEC Sweet and Agored Cymru qualifications and so experience of delivering these would be advantageous.

West Monmouth is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school serving Pontypool and the surrounding area. The school has expanded very rapidly in recent years and currently has 1160 pupils on roll.  West Monmouth has an excellent reputation within its community for both academic results and pastoral care and many pupils from outside our traditional catchment area have choose to join us each year.

Closing Date: Friday 8th May, 2026 at 11.59 pm

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all successful applicants, which will include an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Registration with the Education Workforce Council is required for this post.
