Dear Prospective Applicant

Thank you for your interest in the position of English teacher at Abersychan School. This is an important position for our school, as we aim to further improve the quality of provision and standards in English, which Estyn recently evaluated as being a strength at Abersychan School. The English Department consists of strong teachers and you would be part of a passionate team. An established Curriculum Leader of English is innovative and outward looking, always striving to develop the English curriculum.

Abersychan School is an 11-16 comprehensive school which ensures that children of all abilities fulfil their potential. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for their lives beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring that each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 743 students, 48 teachers and 46 members of support staff. The school serves an area of socio-economic disadvantage and 32% of students are entitled to free school meals.

The school’s aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extra-curricular activities. Students are happy, hard-working and positive about the school. They genuinely are an asset to our community and are incredibly friendly. We have fantastic parents and governors who are very supportive in helping us ensure that each student receives the very best education. The school has been widely commended for making significant improvements to behaviour management and we are focussed on securing the highest standards through an outstanding provision.

The English Department at Abersychan School is a successful, hardworking and dynamic team with a shared vision to ensure that all students experience the highest quality teaching and learning to achieve their best. The department is well resourced with digital teaching resources, including interactive whiteboards, visualisers and Chromebooks. Provision in English is bolstered by a strong culture for reading and a challenging scheme of learning, which includes very well-planned lesson resources.

We are looking for an exceptional person who has the energy, drive, resilience and commitment to join us at this crucial time in our improvement journey. If you are excited by the prospect of playing a significant role in realising the school’s ambitions, have an unrelenting belief that all students can achieve, regardless of background and ability, then we would love to hear from you! In return, I personally guarantee you the very best level of support.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Curriculum Leader, should you wish to receive further information regarding this role or to arrange a visit to the school. The application form is to be completed via the Local Authority’s platform which has been linked to the job advertisement on eteach.
