Thank you for your interest in the position of Welsh teacher at Abersychan School. This is an important position for our school, as we aim to improve the quality of provision and standards in Welsh. The Languages Department consists of strong teachers and leaders. A newly appointed Curriculum Leader of Languages and Assistant Headteacher Pedagogy are both specialist Welsh teachers, and are passionate about embedding the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus. As a first language Welsh speaker myself, I share their commitment to securing the best possible outcomes and raising the profile of Welsh, within the school community.
Abersychan School is an 11-16 comprehensive school which ensures that children of all abilities fulfil their potential. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for their lives beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring that each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 743 students, 48 teachers and 46 members of support staff. The school serves an area of socio-economic disadvantage and 32% of students are entitled to free school meals.
The school’s aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extra-curricular activities. Students are happy, hard-working and positive about the school. They genuinely are an asset to our community and are incredibly friendly. We have fantastic parents and governors who are very supportive in helping us ensure that each student receives the very best education. The school has been widely commended for making significant improvements to behaviour management and we are focussed on securing the highest standards through an outstanding provision.
The Languages department at Abersychan School is a successful, hardworking and dynamic team with a shared vision to ensure that all students experience the highest quality teaching and learning to achieve their best. The department is well resourced with digital teaching resources, including interactive whiteboards, visualisers and Chromebooks. Provision in Welsh is bolstered by strong leadership and a challenging scheme of learning, which includes very well-planned lesson resources.
We are looking for an exceptional person who has the energy, drive, resilience and commitment to join us at this crucial time in our improvement journey. If you are excited by the prospect of playing a significant role in realising the school’s ambitions, have an
unrelenting belief that all students can achieve, regardless of background and ability, then we would love to hear from you! In return, I personally guarantee you the very best level of support.
