Early Years Leader

Interview Date: Tuesday 20th May 2025

Start Date: September 2025

Are you an experienced and passionate Early Years teacher ready to take the next step in your career?

Somerfords’ Walter Powell is seeking a talented and committed Early Years Leader to join our small but mighty school, where every child is nurtured, known, and celebrated. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and shape our Early Years provision, while also supporting Early Years development across our wider Vine Schools collective.

The successful candidate will have a four-day teaching commitment in our mixed Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 class at Somerfords’ Walter Powell. The fifth day will be dedicated leadership time to work alongside colleagues across the two other Vine schools, supporting the development of Early Years practice, pedagogy and curriculum. You’ll have the chance to influence provision beyond your own classroom and help shape early education across our small, supportive group of schools.

Our recent Ofsted report celebrated our strengths as a school where “children are at the heart of everything”, and our Early Years provision plays a vital role in that. We’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to high standards and joyful learning, and who can bring energy, creativity and leadership to this important phase of our school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience in Early Years and a secure understanding of child development
  • Can lead a high-quality, engaging and well-organised EYFS environment
  • Is confident in monitoring provision, identifying areas for improvement and taking action
  • Can inspire children to be curious, independent learners through play-based approaches
  • Builds strong relationships with families and works in genuine partnership with them
  • Has excellent communication skills and thrives in a team
  • Has the leadership drive to work across schools and support others

In return, we can offer you:

  • A lovely cohort of children, eager to explore and learn
  • Dedicated release time to develop your leadership across the Vine Schools
  • The chance to shape the Early Years vision in a small, supportive school
  • A dedicated and experienced team who will support and cheer you on
  • High-quality CPD and leadership support through The Blue Kite Academy Trust
  • A positive, community-centred ethos with a “can-do” attitude

We welcome visits to the school – it’s the best way to see what we’re all about. Come and see our lovely indoor and outdoor EYFS spaces and meet the team.

To arrange a visit or for further information, please contact the school office. We look forward to hearing from you.
