Class Teacher (KS2 – Year 6)

Full time | Interview Date: Wednesday 21st May 2025

Start Date: September 2025

We strongly encourage part time applicants to apply. We are able to accommodate flexible working and part time working patterns.

We are looking for an experienced teacher to join our small and nurturing school community at Somerfords’ Walter Powell. This is a unique opportunity to teach a delightful Year 6 class of fewer than 20 children – a rare chance to make a real difference with every child known, valued, and challenged.

Our recent Ofsted inspection was incredibly positive, celebrating our “inclusive ethos, ambitious curriculum and happy, confident pupils.” We’re proud of the strong progress we’ve made and are looking for a committed teacher who will continue to build on this momentum.

This role would suit someone with a solid track record of teaching in upper Key Stage 2 who brings energy, creativity and a good dose of common sense to the classroom. As a small school, we work closely together – collaboration is second nature here. You’ll be joining a team that shares ideas, supports each other, and always puts children at the heart of what we do.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience in Key Stage 2 (particularly Years 5/6)
  • Brings high expectations for behaviour and achievement
  • Is well-organised and proactive
  • Has a secure understanding of the national curriculum and assessment
  • Is passionate about learning and inspires the same in children
  • Is keen to get stuck in with the wider life of a small school

In return, we can offer you:

  • A small, supportive school community with strong relationships
  • A fantastic class of well-behaved, eager learners
  • Excellent CPD through The Blue Kite Academy Trust
  • Opportunities to lead a subject and take on wider responsibilities
  • A caring and forward-thinking team with a great sense of humour
  • A collaborative approach to planning through The Vine Schools made up of Seagry, Christian Malford and Somerfords’ Walter Powell

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed – come and see for yourself what makes Somerfords’ Walter Powell such a special place to work.

For more information or to arrange a visit, please contact the school office. We look forward to meeting you.
