William Hulme’s Grammar School is the second most over-subscribed school in Manchester and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1450 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

The Academy has a relatively new Sixth Form Centre, a two-form entry Primary Phase and has specialist rooms in the Secondary Phase, including fully equipped science labs, a library, ICT resource centre, music practice rooms, design, technology and art rooms. There is also a sports hall with changing facilities, along with full kitchen and dining facilities in the Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.

Inspectors judged the school to be Good in all phases in its most recent inspection, May 2019.

William Hulme’s Grammar School is a vibrant, multicultural school that welcomes children from all backgrounds and beliefs. We are committed to ensuring that all children receive a first-class education that prepares them thoroughly for the future and allows them to play an active role in the life of the school and wider community. The school encourages staff to organise events and trips (home and abroad), extra-curricular and subject enrichment activities, to develop the whole child, to prepare him/her for the challenges of the modern world.

The Primary Phase of William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) encourages its pupils to become independent and enthusiastic learners. The bright and well-equipped classrooms are complemented by the facilities in the Secondary Phase, such as the sports' pitches, ICT suites and dining hall, promoting an environment where children can develop fully.

An opportunity has arisen in the Primary Phase to appoint an engaging sports coach that has experience working with or coaching primary-aged children.

Reporting to the Subject Lead for PE in the Primary Phase, the Sports Coach will deliver PE sessions and other pre-set sports sessions to primary school-aged children across our Primary Phase. This will include activities and sessions during break-times, lunchtimes and after school.

The successful applicant will have experience in coaching or will have a sports/PE related degree. They will also need to be able to demonstrate the following:

• Strong behaviour management

• Good communication skills

• Have a pro-active approach to work

• Be able to build a good rapport with students

• Ability to engage pupils in tasks

Following a huge expansion programme, we offer you an impressive and vibrant place to work with great staff and students, where your passion for children’s development will be valued and where you will find a genuine commitment to continuing and enhancing your professional development.

Standard working hours are 8.30 am-4.30 pm with flexibility for adapting for after school competitions. For full details of the role and responsibilities, please see the associated job description, person specification and term and conditions documents. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and particularly those committed to diversity and inclusion.

United Learning

William Hulme's Grammar School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Employees of United Learning are offered employee benefits through its reward scheme, United Rewards. United Learning works with Perkbox to offer its employees over 250 exclusive benefits, all through their easy-to-access App. Featuring a huge range of perks, from discounted cinema tickets and holidays, to money off meals out at restaurants nationwide, plus savings on food, technology and clothes shopping. They also offer salary sacrifice schemes such as Childcare Vouchers and Cycle to Work which offer tax and NI savings on new bikes and nursery care.

Closing date: Sunday 8th March Interviews: Friday 12th March

The school is fully committed to the safeguarding of children and all staff will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and full child protection/safeguarding training. United Learning is an equal opportunities employer
