A Founding Role
Our Army CCF contingent launches at the start of the 2026–27 academic year, and this is a genuinely exciting opportunity to build something from the ground up. As our founding School Staff Instructor, you will play a leading role in establishing the contingent — recruiting students, identifying and onboarding Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs), and ensuring that those volunteers complete their required training to a high standard and in good time.
The CCF will give William Ellis boys real, practical experience of the Five Rs in action: the resilience to push through difficulty, the responsibility of looking out for others, the resourcefulness to solve problems in the field, and the respect and reflection that come from being part of something larger than themselves. Your job is to help make that a reality — and to build a contingent that is truly of use, not merely of reputation.
The Role
- Working closely with the Contingent Commander, the SSI is the key enabler of a well-run CCF contingent. Your responsibilities will include:
- Recruiting students to the contingent and promoting the CCF across the school community
- Identifying, recruiting, and onboarding Cadet Force Adult Volunteers
- Ensuring CFAVs complete required training to a good standard and within required timescales
- Managing cadet records, kit, and equipment, and maintaining accurate stores
- Booking and administering field days, camps, and training activities
- Maintaining cadet management information systems (Westminster/Bader)
- Acting as the administrative backbone of the contingent, enabling the Contingent Commander and CFAVs to focus on cadet development
Flexibility and Commitment
This post requires a degree of flexibility. The successful candidate will be expected to work additional hours as needed to meet the school’s needs, including occasional evenings and weekends to support planned field trips and camps.
In addition to the school salary, the SSI can claim up to 51 days’ Volunteer Allowance per annum (April–March) for CCF-related activities from London District. The current daily rate is £87.04 (taxable), offering potential additional earnings of up to approximately £4,439 per year.
