The Learning Enhancement Coordinator (SENDCo) will lead and coordinate provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL), ensuring all pupils receive high-quality, inclusive support that enables them to thrive academically and personally.

This role is central to championing pupils with additional needs — ensuring they are not only supported, but heard, valued and fully included in all aspects of school life.

This role is well suited to either:

  • an experienced SENDCo, or
  • a strong teacher or middle leader looking to step into SEND leadership (full training and support provided)

The role includes a teaching commitment (proportion flexible), ensuring the SENDCo remains closely connected to classroom practice.

Hours, Salary & Benefits:

Hours: Permanent role, 0.6

Salary: Up to £26,400 actual earnings

Job Description:

SEND, EAL & Inclusion Leadership

  • Act as the school’s nominated lead for SEND and inclusion, including oversight of EAL provision
  • Champion pupils with additional needs, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences shape provision
  • Promote a strong culture of belonging where all pupils feel seen, supported and successful
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and provision for pupils with SEND and EAL
  • Ensure all statutory SEND requirements are met in line with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Coordinate, implement and regularly review support plans and interventions
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of provision on pupil progress, wellbeing and engagement

Provision & Practice

  • Support staff in delivering high-quality, inclusive classroom practice
  • Ensure appropriate differentiation, scaffolding and adaptive teaching are embedded across the school
  • Use assessment effectively to identify needs and remove barriers to learning
  • Promote inclusive teaching approaches that enable all pupils to access and enjoy learning

Pupil & Family Engagement

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, ensuring they feel confident to share their experiences
  • Work closely with families to create supportive and collaborative partnerships
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals to ensure joined-up provision
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with all stakeholders

Strategic Oversight

  • Monitor SEND and EAL trends across the school to inform development priorities
  • Contribute to the school’s inclusive vision and continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation

Professional Development

  • Undertake the National Award for SENDCo if not already held (fully supported by the school)
  • Receive coaching and leadership development as part of the role
  • Support and develop staff understanding of SEND, EAL and inclusive practice
  • Contribute to a culture of reflection and continuous professional growth

Teaching & Learning

  • Teach a class or groups of pupils (proportion of timetable flexible)
  • Model excellent, inclusive classroom practice
  • Deliver engaging, personalised and accessible learning experiences
  • Maintain high expectations for all pupils
