The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, part of the Woodard family of schools, is a dynamic and popular 11–18 academy located between Worthing and Brighton, serving the students of Lancing, Sompting and Shoreham. Our aim is that every student is known, nurtured and is provided with learning experiences that allow them to fulfil their potential. We believe that students succeed when the school environment is caring and orderly; every member of staff has a part to play in achieving this. The academy currently has 1300 students on roll, along with 125 staff.
The position of Cook forms an integral part of the catering team, headed up by the Catering Manager and supported by six catering assistants (one of whom has the role of team supervisor). 18% of our students are currently eligible for free school meals. At SRWA, all meals are prepared and cooked from scratch, and we pride ourselves on ensuring that every child has access to a wholesome, nutritious meal, every week day. The catering team has a strong, shared purpose and a commitment to providing a first-class school meal service to students and staff. The canteen is a busy, productive environment, where team-work and cleanliness are crucial. The Cook has specific responsibility for:
• The day to day running of the school kitchen, ensuring compliance with all relevant Health and Safety and Food Hygiene requirements;
• Supporting the Catering Manager in designing and providing a high quality, healthy and nutritious in-house catering service within budget and with minimal wastage;
• Leading on the preparation and cooking of appealing and nutritionally balanced meals in large quantities, in line with current regulations and food standards.
The position is permanent: during term time and all inset days, working over 39 weeks of the year. The fixed hours worked daily are: 7.00am to 2.20pm, Monday-Friday.
The actual salary is £15,955 per annum, equivalent to £10.21 per hour, paid monthly in arrears. You will receive the same amount of pay each month; support staff are entered into the Local Government Pension Scheme. All staff members have access to an employee wellness programme, free on-site parking and a cycle to work scheme
