Early Career Teacher: Applications welcomed

Due to increasing pupil numbers we are in a very fortunate position to be able to offer a full time Teacher of English role to commence in September 2023

We seek a committed full time English teacher who is enthusiastic, passionate about the subject and has high expectations of all students. We are looking for someone with the ability to teach English at KS3 and to GCSE. At KS3 our curriculum is broad, providing a firm foundation for GCSE, whilst not being constrained by GCSE style questions. All pupils have a weekly lesson in the school library, where our School Librarian and English staff are collaborating to create a positive reading culture, underpinned by the use of Accelerated Reader. At KS4 we use the AQA specification for both English Language and English Literature.

English forms part of our energetic and exciting Languages and Literature Faculty, comprising of a team of professionals who work together and support each other. We are in the process of codifying our curriculum and planning is collaborative. The English staff are all subject specialists and are passionate about both literature and the study of language. Student outcomes in English are strong and we are looking to add further strength to this team. The faculty is ambitious and forward looking – our goal is to ensure that every student loves the subject as much as we do!

The successful candidate will be a reflective practitioner who is able to maximise the potential of all our pupils. They will use teaching and assessment effectively to ensure that all pupils know, remember and can apply key knowledge and skills. We are also looking for a colleague who can make a contribution to the wider life of the school, through extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits.

Our School:

Polam Hall School is a 4 – 16 years all-through academy and is part of Woodard Academies Trust and delighted to have been rated Good by Ofsted in October 2021 and strives to be Outstanding upon their return. Polam Hall is a school with a unique and long history, which today is proud to be a fully comprehensive school serving the young people of Darlington. Our mission is to educate the whole child, developing leadership, compassion, character and academic ambition, through the combination of our Academic and Concordia Crescimus curricula. We have high expectations and aspirations for every member of our school community.

Polam Hall is a community where staff and students work together for common goals. We make every effort to develop our staff team, offering professional development opportunities and the chance to be part of a wider Trust, yet retaining the friendly atmosphere of a small school. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join our team, who have children at the heart of their practice and who will help us to drive forward our aim: to deliver an outstanding education to every single one of our pupils.

Visits to the school are welcome and can be arranged by the Administration Team.
