Revealing the Champion Within

Growing in our thinking, feeling and learning together

picture bees.PNG

Woodland Academy Trust is a growing trust of four, soon to be five Primary Schools in South East London and North Kent.

All of our schools share the same mission; to reveal the champion within.  We inspire our young people to achieve their full potential and become leaders in their own lives and wider society.  Every person in our Trust has a champion within them and we will equip them with the skills, experience and beliefs to see the champion within and live like a champion each day.

In order to fulfil our mission, we will be growing in our thinking, feeling and learning together, and this is how we want to develop our staff.  We want everyone to understand what this means as a lived experience, we recognise we are stronger together and value the collaboration of all our staff.

Our Wellbeing Dogs

Treacle, Willow, Elsie and Betsy

Each of our schools has its very own wellbeing dog.  The dogs attend school each day and are trained to support our children.  The wellbeing dogs are also a great addition to the staff team and our staff benefit greatly from a cuddle with the dogs.

The benefits of having a school dog are:

  • A calming effect on pupils
  • Improved behaviour and concentration, reduced stress and improved self-esteem
  • Encouraging expression, participation and confidence for all children
  • Fostering a sense of responsibility;
  • Motivating pupils to think and to learn
  • Developing an enthusiasm for and enjoyment of animals
  • Encouraging respect and thereby improving pupils’ relationships with each other, parents and teachers
  • Teaching children to nurture and respect life
  • Helping work undertaken with the most vulnerable children
  • Helping children build confidence in reading
  • Improving attendance
  • Helping overcome a fear of dogs
  • Increasing staff morale and wellbeing
  • Developing the understanding of unconditional love
  • Supporting with the development of cooperative play
  • Supporting children to develop empathy
  • Further promote our Well Being agenda for pupils.
