Wycliffe College seeks a well-qualified and experienced professional to lead inclusion and SEN provision across the whole College and as Head of our thriving Learning Support department. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and thriving Department and make a significant impact on the lives and learning of students with diverse needs.

The successful applicant will provide vision for the development of SEN provision across the school, strong leadership and skilful team management. A Level 7 assessment qualification is highly desirable (or, if not, a willingness to gain the qualification on appointment is essential). A NASENCO/NPQSENCO qualification is also highly desirable.

The SENCo is responsible primarily to the Deputy Head Academic but may also report directly to the Head on strategic matters. The Head of Learning Support sits on the Senior School Senior Management Team and may, at times, be involved at College Leadership level on more strategic matters relating to SEND provision and policy.

The Department

The Learning Support Department is a highly regarded and integral part of the College, playing a central role in supporting pupils. The College recently received an outstanding report following its CReSTeD registration inspection, reflecting the department’s high standards and commitment to best practice. Most recently, it has launched a pioneering Graduated Response Programme for SEND, further enhancing its provision for pupils with additional needs.

The department is led by the Head of Learning Support/SENCo and comprises of three full-time, highly qualified staff. It works in close partnership with teaching colleagues to promote adaptive teaching strategies, deliver targeted specialist interventions, and provide tailored study skills support. The team ensures that the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are identified, understood, and met -both in day-to-day teaching and through the effective coordination of access arrangements for examinations.
