The Mathematics Department at Salesian
We are a strong, passionate team who pride ourselves on working hard to ensure that every student reaches their full potential and truly enjoys their Maths lessons. Our large team is made up of colleagues with a broad range of experience—from interns, trainee teachers and ECTs through to those who have taught in the department for over 30 years! The positive energy and enthusiastic approach of our staff make it a great team of people to work with. You will get a real buzz working here with great people who look after each other like a family.
We are extremely proud of our students’ results and strive to continue improving year on year. In 2025, our Year 11 students achieved 94% grades 9–4 and 48% grades 9–7 (including thirty seven grade 9s) at GCSE. Maths is also an extremely popular subject in our Sixth Form, with over 200 students studying it across Years 12 and 13, and more than 50 students taking Further Maths. Last year, 70% of our A Level students achieved grades A*–B, and several went on to study Mathematics at university.
The department plays a leading role in the North East Hants and Surrey MathsHub, as well as training undergraduate interns and SCITTs each year. As a team, we are also fully embedded in the co curricular life of the school, offering clubs each evening and an annual Year 7 residential Maths trip. The UKMT and MathsFeast are just two examples of the many opportunities we provide for our students. With the College continuing to grow, there are also plenty of opportunities for those interested in teaching at Key Stage 5.
Please feel free to contact us for further details, ask any questions, or simply come to meet us and have a look around.
