RE: Visiting Singing Teacher

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, engaging and inspiring Visiting Singing Teacher on a self-employed basis to teach individual singing lessons in our Music Department. The successful candidate will be able to teach singing from beginner to advanced level. They will be an experienced and inspiring teacher, who is able to offer a dynamic and individualised approach to singing, with an appropriate qualification in Music.

The number of lessons each week will vary from term to term depending on demand.

The successful candidate will be proactive in recruiting new students and be available to increase their teaching hours; be expected to communicate effectively with the school and with parents to arrange lessons, payment and discuss progress; be an excellent role model to students and set expectations for progress and enjoyment; enter students for exams and performances as appropriate; organise a weekly timetable rotation for students and liaise with Head of Music on lesson organisation matters.

The Music Department is a vital part of our school community, offering a dynamic range of extra-curricular activities and a diverse concert program. We have both a Lower School and an Upper School Choir, with the latter performing SATB repertoire and playing a key role in the Carol Service alongside the Staff Choir. Our musical ensembles include an Orchestra, Junior and Senior Studio Bands, and various ad-hoc groups such as Guitar and ukulele club.

Our concert series features end-of-term showcases, recitals, and a Year 7 Concert where all Year 7 students perform for parents and staff. Music also plays a significant role in our worship, with singing during Mass and Liturgies, and an annual Carol Service. Additionally, the Music Department collaborates closely with the Drama Department to produce high-quality performances.

The department boasts two classrooms outfitted with keyboards and PCs, featuring Dorico and Cubase software. We have well-attended practice rooms for peripatetic lessons, offering instruction on a wide range of orchestral instruments, as well as Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, and Voice. Additionally, we are fortunate to have a full Balinese Gamelan Orchestra, a Samba Kit, and Steel Pans, providing all KS3 students with the opportunity to explore World Music. We also borrow orchestral percussion instruments from Surrey Arts for use by the orchestra.

Music is a growing focus at our school. There is currently one class of students studying music at GCSE. In 2025, at GCSE 85% of students gained a 5+ grade and over 45% of these being 7+. While A Level music hasn’t run recently due to uptake, we now have a Year 12 group enrolled. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape and expand our music provision.
