Due to the continued demand for Welsh medium education in Cardiff, the city’s third Welsh medium secondary school opened its doors in September 2012. It serves the east of the city and moved to its permanent location in September 2013.
Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern is a community school for boys and girls from 11 – 18 years and there will be eventually around 1100 students at the school. In September 2023 there are around a 1000 pupils on roll.
In Estyn’s inspection report, the school was described as ‘a very close-knit community with an extremely caring and supportive ethos’. It was also noted that ‘pupils behave exceptionally well and treat each other and others with very high levels of respect’ and that the school creates a culture and ethos of a ‘learning school’, which encourages and supports the staff’s professional development very well at all levels. It was judged that wellbeing and attitudes to learning, as well as teaching and learning experiences were excellent within the school.
The school is searching for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join the Food and Nutrition department.
Candidates should:
● possess excellent organisational and management skills
● have a knowledge of health and safety matters including COSHH
● possess good communication skills in English and/or Welsh
● possess good ICT skills
● possess excellent interpersonal skills
● be committed to establish a positive ethos within the school which is based upon the Welsh language and culture
