Ysgol Bryn Derw are seeking to appoint 4 inspirational Level 3 Teaching Assistants for a unique opportunity to contribute to whole school and class-based initiatives in a growing school that received Excellent ratings in 4 out of 5 Estyn Inspection Areas in March 2020.
By September 2023 Ysgol Bryn Derw will, across 2 sites, support the provision of education for 112 children aged from 3 years to 19 years who have been diagnosed with ASD, also present with additional complex needs such as severe learning difficulties or highly challenging behaviour, and require a specialised environment.
The school aims to provide the highest possible standards of education and support for all its pupils regardless of their level of educational need, and is equipped with a range of specialised facilities including a Rebound Therapy room, 5 sensory rooms, a Touch Therapy room, 4 soft play rooms, 2 Independent Living Skills rooms and 2 allotment areas.
The Governing Body is looking to appoint four Level 3 TAs, in this role you will be the lead teaching assistant in a class of pupils with complex leads, and responsible for delivering learning under the direction of the class teacher, for directing and supporting the work of a team of teaching assistants and for acting as a cover supervisor for up to 3 days in the absence of the class teacher.
You will have experience, as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, of working with pupils with ASD/complex needs and a knowledge of strategies to support communication and regulation for people with ASD and of supporting challenging behaviour.

Candidates will be expected to:
- work under the guidance of teaching staff and/or members of the school leadership team within an agreed system of supervision
- support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas
- contribute to the teacher’s planning cycle to ensure all pupils have equal access to learning
- occasionally supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of the teacher
