There is a growing positive feeling towards the school and our target 4 years ago to be the first choice school for our community has been achieved. Our Year 7 has risen from 90 to 180 pupils and has been full for the last 2 years and a phase 1 building programme will be completed by September 2003 to include science and humanities accommodation. The school is seeking to raise the expectations of its pupils through a full range of academic, sporting, artisitic and vocational experiences. All pupils are encouraged to achieve the highest academic level they can and will be focussing on their life beyond school with a strong careers programme. All pupils take the opportunity in the upper school to spend 10 days in work experience, this is extended to a day each week for a number of pupils in their final year.Academic progress is always at the heart of school life. Parents can expect regular contact with teachers through a logbook and half termly reports on progress. Homework is an important part of school life and encourages pupils to become independent learners. The support structure for pupils is very strong with a system of form tutors and year heads.Additional opportunities for learning are made available through Summer Literacy and Numeracy Schools, homework club, revision classes for GCSE pupils and after school computer classes. The Library is open before and after school each day for private study. The curriculum has been extended to cater for the full range of abilities.
