<h3>The start of the £42 million new Furness College campus has begun with the opening of its new build in January 2012.</h3><p> </p><p>Hailed as one of the finest and unique educational designs in the county, the remodelling of the campus will provide the people of Furness and south Cumbria with an educational environment where they experience of study will be related to the real world.</p><p>Three months ahead of schedule, the new build provides a prestigious education venue combining brand new workshops, salons (including a spa, sauna and steam room) new restaurant, dedicated university centre and the very latest in technology.</p><p>This phase of the campus redevelopment will shortly see the refurbishment of the College’s Learning Resource Centre in October 2012. This refurbishment will house brand new facilities and resources for Creative Media, IT, Early Years, Health & Social Care and Public Services. A major new part of this project will see the college’s Sport facilities being developed to house a dedicated gym. In late autumn 2012 demolition of the remaining college’s 20 year old buildings will see further sport facilities emerging with the laying of an all weather games pitch and landscaped grounds overlooking the channel.</p><p>Staff and students are delighted with their new venue and the proposed plans – commenting on the space and brightness of the building, including its stunning views from the top floor.</p><p>It is hoped the new campus will inspire people of all ages to study and to give them a real impetus to achieve their aspirations.</p><p>The building also includes the latest sustainable, energy-efficient technology and facilities such as a helical wind turbine, photovoltaic solar panels, green sedum roofing and biomass boilers</p><p>More than six years since its inception, funding for the project - 32m from the Skills Funding Agency, £3.5m from North West Development Agency via University of Cumbria and £5.3m invested by Furness College the new Furness College campus is now becoming a reality.</p>
