About Priestley College

SET on a green field site in the south of Warrington, Priestley College was established as a sixth form college in 1979 by Cheshire LEA. In partnership with local 11-16 schools, whilst also successfully competing with 11-18 schools in the area, the College grew in size and complexity during the 1980s offering a wide range of courses to young people in the town. Incorporation in 1993 provided the stimulus for further development and diversification with the introduction of an evening programme of adult education in 1994 and, more recently in 1996, a training services and outreach branch of the College in response to the need to widen participation in education and training. The College has a successful track record in meeting its targets for growth and has ambitious plans for further development.

In July 2003 OFSTED published its Inspection Report following the April inspection. We were delighted with the results, with one curriculum area being graded outstanding, six as good and two as satisfactory. Inspectors also praised governors, management and general resources. We were identi?ed as one of 15 'particularly successful' colleges in HM Chief Inspector's annual Report in 2004.

The College has recently seen the completion of a £1.7 million project which included the building of a new sports centre, and a considerable refurbishment of a large area of the College to provide a student services area and café bar. The developments have enhanced the facilities for learning, of which the College is rightly proud. Our Learning Resource Centre (opened in 1999) houses 90 PCs and students are also able to utilise the latest laptop wireless technology. The OFSTED inspectors also praised the standard of both general and specialist classrooms and laboratories.
