Glenalmond College is one of Scotland’s leading co-educational independent boarding and day schools, for boys and girls aged 12-18.We are a full, seven days a week boarding school, with the time and the means to deliver a complete education, balancing serious academic work with an extensive range of creative, sporting, social and adventure activities. We are a caring and happy community, enjoying 300-acres of Perthshire countryside bounded to the north by the River Almond, at the foot of the Highlands yet close to the city of Perth and only an hour by road from the centres and airports of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Our pupils grow up together in a beautiful, secure and stimulating environment, developing confidence for life beyond school. Day-to-day we set great store by the timeless qualities that have their roots firmly in British traditions: courtesy, honesty, integrity, modesty and a respect for others are values that we uphold in all that we aim to achieve. Life is busy at Glenalmond and opportunities abound across a very broad spectrum: here, everyone gets involved and everyone has the chance to excel. Learning and growth at Glenalmond encompass so much more than classroom teaching. Indeed, we prefer not to draw distinctions between the ‘curricular' and ‘extra-curricular'. For example, the Lecture and Tutorial programmes are not ‘extra', but core aspects of the education we give. Chapel is central to the spiritual and moral life of the College, while options such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, learning a musical instrument or joining the Conservation group are integral to the experience of being here. Academic development though, is paramount. We promote a culture of academic excellence and extend the horizons of all, stretching and challenging the more able, supporting and encouraging the less able. Class sizes are small and the work ethic is strong. Our facilities are first-rate: the Science Centre provides three floors of state-of-the-art laboratories; every classroom and Boarding House is linked to the College's internal computer network and there are hundreds of PCs to access. The Learning Resources Centre is equipped with a suite of Apple Macs and a video conferencing facility. The 20,000-volume Library provides an ideal environment for private study and research or just for reading the broadsheet newspapers. In the junior years study is intentionally broad with all pupils working towards the GCSE. In the Sixth Form the emphasis is on fulfilling, in-depth study with the pupils following AS followed by A2 level courses. The academic welfare of every pupil is constantly monitored by their House parents while dedicated tutors are another source of guidance. Parents are always kept informed of progress.
