Pupil numbers at international schools globally continue to climb. According to the latest figures (July 2020), almost six million pupils aged 3-18 are being taught at 11,616 international schools around the world, with student numbers increasing by around 7% from 5.6m in 2019.
Forecasts have suggested that these schools will host almost seven million pupils by 2023. The increasing popularity of international education doesn’t come as much of a surprise: the diverse enrolment of many nationalities and celebration of different cultures creates a welcoming environment in which students can settle in and make friends.
In order for international schools to keep up with the demand for places, however, they must ensure that they are proactive in their recruitment of international teachers. In recent times, there has been a surge in demand for aspiring teachers who have the necessary training, cross-cultural skills and global outlook to work in an international setting.
In the UK, the Department for Education has recognised the need to do more to attract international teachers and is piloting a new, funded acclimatisation service for a limited number of schools who employ international teachers.
The acclimatisation service offering includes pre-arrival support for overseas teachers and training for in-school mentors. This will help schools to onboard new international recruits – but they’ll need to ensure they’re getting in front of quality candidates in the first place. That’s where an international education recruitment partner could provide real value.
To get maximum value from the partnership, here’s what you should go looking for in an international recruitment partner:
Ability to connect you with lots of schools and candidates
It might sound like an obvious thing to say, but it takes time to build up an audience of engaged candidates. In the 20 years that Eteach has been in existence, we have expanded our reach to around two million candidates, both in the UK and abroad.
Our global advertisers place more than 70,000 education vacancies in front of those candidates every year, knowing that the job is going to meet many eyes.
We’ve also built partnerships with more than 7,500 schools, colleges and academies internationally, while forging long-standing relationships with the UK’s top teaching universities. It’s this constant commitment to growing and sustaining our reach which makes it easy for educators to find the best teaching talent.
A global presence
If it’s international teachers that you’re after, ideally you want a recruitment partner which has a global presence. When a recruiter has a global understanding, they know exactly what local candidates need to be nurtured and prepared right from the start of their employment.
When this is the case, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a UK school looking to attract international teachers, or a school outside of the UK looking to attract UK teachers, you have some assurance that the candidate will be a good fit for your school.
As well as offices throughout the UK, Eteach has a physical presence in the United Arab Emirates, helping to expand our global reach and local knowledge.
Help you get to candidates first
The best teaching talent gets snapped up quickly. It’s the same in most industries, but the best recruiters will enable you to get to the best candidates first.
