DIFFERENT WAYS TO TRAIN AS A TEACHER AFTER YOUR DEGREE

University-centred training

University centred teacher training for graduates normally takes one year and results in a PGCE which carries Master’s credits. The university will also place you in schools for teaching experience. You can apply for a tuition fee and maintenance loan and some subjects attract a bursary to train. Entry to these courses is by UCAS application.

School centred training

School Centred Initial Teacher Training Schools (SCITTS) offer you on-the-job experience while supporting you to reach Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). SCITT courses include Schools Direct and Teach First. It’s up to you to find a place in a school or SCITT. Courses can take 1-2 years and award a postgraduate diploma in education or a PGCE.
