Opportunity for a first-rate teacher of Design Technology to develop pupils’ creative design skills in an award-winning art, design and technology centre.

The person appointed will be a strong, dynamic character with excellent subject knowledge, a good degree, good classroom management skills, a track record of excellent teaching and an appropriate rapport with pupils. The abilities to communicate well and work as part of a team are essential. The successful candidate will have high personal and professional standards, with well developed pastoral instincts. Applicants should ideally have a background in resistant materials, engineering or product design. Experience of using traditional workshop skills and CAD/CAM are essential.

This position could equally suit an NQT or an experienced teacher. Teachers at Uppingham play a full part in the life of this seven-day week boarding school, by taking on responsibilities in addition to classroom teaching.

The Design Technology department currently offers Cambridge IGCSE Design Technology (Resistant Materials) and Pre U Art & Design. Pupils are allowed to use the facilities during the schools free time sessions, which the successful applicant will be expected to be part of. The department is based in the School’s award-winning art, design and technology centre, known as the Leonardo Centre, which provides studios for design (including CAD design and laser cutting), ceramics, sculpture studio, sound and video engineering and workshops primarily for wood, metal and plastic.

Uppingham School has been closely involved with the development of design and technology education for more than 35 years, so this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in its continued development.
