Established in 2016, Cardiff Montessori School (CMS) is the only Montessori primary school in Wales. The Montessori approach was developed by Dr Maria Montessori, an expert in child development and three times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. At the heart of CMS is academic excellence, emotional and social well being, developing life skills, global citizenship and spirituality & purpose. Cultivating self-directed and resilient learners with a strong social conscious.
CMS is dedicated to offering authentic AMI quality Montessori education. Children learn in mixed age environments, typically staying in the same class for 3 years. Montessori education is based on a scientific understanding of child development. Children learn through hands on materials which gradually become more abstract. Ensuring all learners have solid foundations in place to scaffold their learning on. The early years focus on connecting children to their environment to allow them to develop their concentration, independence and executive function skills. In the elementary class (Year 2 and above) children are responsible for tracking their own learning and meeting regularly with their class teacher to review their progress.
We pride ourselves on our small close knit community, in which all staff are familiar with all students and their families. The school has two 3-6 year classes, a lower elementary class (6-9) and upper elementary class (9-12).
