Why choose Cotham?
Bristol is a creative and vibrant city and the school reflects this through its diverse intake and long standing emphasis on a broad curriculum with an emphasis on creativity as well as academic rigour. This is also echoed in the commitment and support Cotham School receives from parents, carers and alumni. Cotham provides a rich and creative learning environment, making it a preferred choice for children and parents/ carers within our locality. Cotham’s student body is a multi-cultural and fully comprehensive one, which contributes to a really vibrant and exciting teaching environment.
Situated on the northern edge of the city centre, we are a successful and evolving school with Cooperative Academy status. Our 1500+ students and 200 staff combine to create a lively and fulfilling place to work and learn. We are located near to the University of Bristol and enjoy purposeful links with both our immediate community and local primary and secondary schools; in addition we partner with another local secondary school to run the exceptionally well regarded North Bristol Post 16 Centre with over 900 students on roll.
Cotham has a strong reputation for high quality teaching and learning with a proven track record of high achievement in GSCE and at A Level. The vast majority of our Post 16 students continue on to Higher Education, including Russell Group Universities and healthy numbers take up Oxbridge places. However, traditional academic achievement is only one element of our success. We also have strengths in developing the social and emotional skills of our young people and it is this balance that has proved so popular over the years.
We are looking for a colleague who has a proven track record of impact and high performance in middle or senior leadership and teaching who has the ability to fulfil the requirements of a senior leadership role. We are also looking for a colleague who is responsive to coaching and development. In return, we can offer outstanding professional development opportunities as part of the Senior Leadership Team and excellent preparation for the next steps in your career.
This post presents an exciting opportunity, at a time when the school is expanding, for an ambitious candidate to make a significant contribution to the future development of the school and to the outcomes and life chances of our students.
