Edgewood Primary School is a Good school based in Hucknall, just to the north of Nottingham City. We have a very friendly and welcoming staff, pupils and community. Due to the retirement of our SENCo, we are looking for someone who is passionate about meeting the individual needs of children, to join our team and continue our drive forwards.
More than anything, we want our school to be filled with people who are enthusiastic about teaching and have things outside teaching they can talk about that will interest and inspire our children. We pride ourselves on being outward-looking to improve our own practices while boasting a strong internal capacity to reflect and improve. We don’t rest on our laurels but equally we always look to refine our systems first rather than rely on wholesale change. If we don’t think something will have an impact on children’s learning, we don’t do it.
The SENCo role is such a vital one for any school. We are looking for someone who is either an experienced SENCo, looking to move into a leadership role, or someone who has had experience of school leadership roles and can demonstrate a passion for helping those with special educational needs and is keen to rapidly develop the skills to become a really effective SENCo. We would expect the successful candidate to either have the SENCo qualification or to complete it as soon as possible.
As Assistant Head Teacher, the post holder will also be the school’s behaviour lead and mental health lead and be a key part of the school’s leadership. (Please see the person spec. for more information on the role.)
Our school is organised into strong, supportive teams of classes which will help the successful candidate settle into our school quickly and feel well supported. The teams work closely together to share ideas and workload. We offer a staff body with considerable knowledge giving a wide breadth of staff training opportunities within our school. We are involved in a number of strong partnerships, such as our local Primary Behaviour Partnership, strong family of schools and a Raising Attainment Network, which give many opportunities for continuing professional development from outside providers as well.
The school has a strong commitment to safeguarding (and will expect all candidates to share this commitment and agree to all relevant checks and procedures) and a clear vision and values geared towards improving outcomes for all our children. There is much more information about our school on our website.
In these strange times, visits to the school are difficult but we can accommodate limited visits after school or please arrange to speak with the head about the role. Please contact the school to arrange a date and time for either of these.
Edgewood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
