In October 2017, Ofsted Inspectors graded the College ‘Good’ with several excellent features and praised staff and students for creating a supportive learning community. Inspectors were impressed with the relentless focus on continuing to improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, leading to our learners making good or excellent progress. The College’s mission is ‘A caring community, delivering excellence and inspiring futures.’
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and successful teacher who will take overall responsibility for the leadership, quality improvement and development of the English curriculum area. This is an exciting opportunity for the person appointed to lead a successful and well-resourced department at a time of growth and opportunities. In addition, the post holder will have the responsibility to implement and monitor the effectiveness of approaches taken in the delivery of the subject to meet the strategic objectives of the College.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include overseeing the continued success of the department in terms of student enjoyment, performance and progression; managing the performance of teaching staff; co-ordinating the delivery and assessment of the department; resource management, monitoring, and reporting; continued development of effective relations with external partners and promotion of the subject to prospective students.
English Literature and Language are popular, well-resourced subject areas within the College; the Department also includes GCSE English. The English Department has excellent relationships with local HE partners and external agencies that support the delivery of learning inside and outside of the classroom, and is taking the lead in a city wide project to improve outcomes for GCSE English students post-16. Exciting opportunities to make English live outside the classroom are also part of our offer.
If you have a passion for English and the desire and ability to share that successfully with young people, combined with the aptitude to lead a group of staff in achieving the same aim, we would welcome your application.
The College is committed to Equal Opportunities. Applications are particularly welcome from members of the ethnic minorities who are currently under represented at the College.
